At one time it was the residence of the Venetian ambassador to France. It was originally built in 1656 by the architect Jean de Bouiller

The Museum opened on the 28th September 1985 and is about 32,000 square feet in size. It had been decided by the French State , after the death of the artist in 1972, that this would be a suitable site for a Museum housing many of his finest works.
The collection consists of 203 paintings, 158 sculptures, 16 papiers colles, 88 ceramics and more then 3000 drawings and prints. These works belonged to Picasso and after his death they were given to the French government in lieu of tax to be paid by the family. The artist planned to do this before his death hoping to keep together a sizable collection of his works for France.
The Museum also shows a number of works from the personal collection of the artist including masterpieces by Cezanne, Matisse, Rousseau, Braque, Derain, Modigliani, Miro, Marie Laurencin and Renoir. Doubtless these works influenced his painting activities.

Description: This Museum is situated in the ancient Chateau Grimaldi in Antibes and the City itself is built on the foundations of the ancient Greek town of Antipolis. In 1608 the castle became the stronghold of the Grimaldi family. In 1702 the Castle became the Town Hall of Antibes. In 1925 it became a Museum and in 1946 Picasso lived there for a six month period and the building became the very first Picasso Museum in 1966. . The artist liked Antibes and gave to the town a collection of 23 paintings and 44 drawings. Of especial note are his paintings of “the Goat” and “La Joie de Vivre” In 1990 Picasso’s widow, Jacqueline Roque, donated more works to the Museum consisting of 4 paintings, 10 drawings, 2 ceramics and 6 etchings. These are displayed at the Château in addition to the 3 works on paper, 60 etchings and 6 carpets by Pablo Picasso which the museum collected between 1952 and 2001. Today the collection totals 245 works by Picasso. Besies Picasso’s works are a collection of sculpture by Germaine Richter and other works by artists such as Miro, Bernard Pages and Patrick Poirer.

Description: The Castle of Vallauris is a fine 16th Century building and the former Abbey of Learns. It is situated in the main square of the town of Vallauris.
In 1946 Picasso became interested in ceramics when he visited the annual potters exhibition in Vallauris. He met Suzanne and Georges Ramie who showed him their Madoura workshop. A year later he returned and the Ramies allocated him an area in their atelier to work in. Picasso was active in Vallauris for many years and was closely related to the town of Vallauris as a result of his ceramic activities which formed an important part of his oeuvre. Vallauris as a town is important for the understanding of much of Picasso’s work.
He was very much part of the Peace Movement and created a “Temple of Peace” in the Castle at Vallauris. His work was a monumental composition comprised of two panels over 100m2 in size which portray the horrors of war and the benefits of peace. Another panel was added at the far end of the chapel to make the link between the themes ; it symbolizes the cult of peace between the nations. The museum has many other exhibits but this is certainly the most important.

Description: This is the newest Picasso Museum , an entertainment exhibition about the life and work of the artist opening on the 1st November 2009. It is connected with the Art Museum of the Royal Art Circle of Spain in Barcelona and the Orta Picasso Museum in Spain (see below). It has one of the best collections of Picasso ceramics in Berlin
It is centrally located in the Humbolt Carre building in Behrenstrasse on the corner of Charlottenstrasse. This magnificent building with an interesting history. Originally built in 1900 after a design by Louis Home it was occupied by Deutsche Bank. In 1934 the building was taken over by the government and became the headquarters of the Reich Labour Ministry. In the GDR period it was used, amongst other things, by the Ministry of Construction. In more recent times it has been converted into an office building by the architect Karl-Hainz Schommer. It is a splendid ediface made in the neo-classical style and well situated for the shopping of Freidrichstrasse and many hotels in the surrounding area. It is well situated for cafe’s restaurants and wine places of refreshment.
Presently the exhibits are in course of preparation but the writer has some inside knowledge of the plans for the structure of the Museum. The main thrust will be devoted to the life and times of the artist and events which shaped his credo and artistic development. It will include such exhibits as:
A range of wonderful quality biographical photographs by artists such as Edward Quinn and Andre Villers which serve to illustrate his life and times.
A fine range of Original Graphics by Picasso.
A quantity of Original ceramics made by the artist in Vallauris in the 1950’s and 1960’s.
Interesting memorabilia linked to the artist’s involvement with the European Peace Movement.
Films and videos relating to the artist’s life and times - such as the famous film by Clouzot , “Le Mystere Picasso”
Other exhibits relating to the Life and Times of the Artist.
Exhibits relating to Picasso’s important interests such as the Corrida and the social high-life on the Riviera in the 1950’s in which he played such an important part.
Exhibits relating to Picasso’s many ladies and friends and the influence they had on his art as a whole.
The Museum has been put together in a very innovative and educational way and will be suitable both as family entertainment and for those with a greater knowledge and grasp of the story of the artist’s life and times who wish to know more. It will feature an excellent bookshop with a wide range of products. For those who wish to know more about “Picasso the man” this museum is a must see. Other Museums exhibit just his works and an academic approach to these. This Museum is couched in more human terms and gives an idea of what the artist was actually like as a person - as well as a great artist.

Museo Picasso
This Museum has one of the best collections of Picasso’s works in the world and is one of the most popular and visited Museums in Barcelona. The Museum is in 5 adjoining medieval palaces in the La Ribera district. The original idea for a Museum in Barcelona came from Picasso’s lifelong friend and secretary Jaime Sabartes. The artist had presented Sabartes with a great collection of his art during the course of their friendship. Sabartes, a fellow Spaniard, has planned a Museum in Malaga but Picasso persuaded him that Barcelona would be more suitable due to his close association with the city.
The Museum opened in 1963 and the Sabartes donation of 574 works were the initial collection. These were supplemented by the holding of the City of Barcelona and further gifts from Picasso’s friends and collectors. After the death of Sabartes Picasso donated over 1000 items of his early works which had remained with his family during his long sojourn in France. There are now over 3500 works in the collection of the Museum. The following collections are displayed:
1. Málaga
2. A Coruña
3. Barcelona
4. Málaga: summers of 1896 and 1897
5. Madrid
6. Horta de Sant Joan
7. Barcelona: 1899–1900
8. Paris: 1900–1901
9. The Blue Period
10. The Rose Period
11. Barcelona: 1917
12. 1917–1957

Description: The Museum is situated in Orta a few miles out of Barcelona. The Centre Picasso is in a 16th century converted Hospital by the Town Hall. It was opened in 1992 as the Centre Picasso.
This is a non profit making organisation devoted to the artist and emphasizing his links with the town of Orta. Picasso was in this town on two occasions. The first was in 1898 when he recovered from a severe illness. He was with his friend Manuel Pallares. The works on display from this time are those of a brilliant adolescent and traditional in execution. Secondly he was there in 1900 with his companion, Fernande Oliver. “The Beautiful Fernande” had an important relationship with the youth of Picasso and was featured in many of his paintings, especially of the Blue Period and early cubism.
The collection is mainly owned by the Barcelona Museum and on display at Orta. It consists mainly of Works on paper and I believe is well worth a visit. The town of Orta is extremely beautiful and set in lovely countryside.
